Fume Extraction Systems

Our fume extraction systems remove hazardous fumes and odours, ensuring compliance with HSG258 and good working practices for a safer, smoother business operation.

What is a fume extraction system?

Fume extraction systems are designed to remove nuisance and process fumes and odours which are hazardous to health, problematic and costly to a smooth running business, our fume extraction systems are designed in line with the government guidance note HSG258, and general good working practice.

With over 40 years of expertise, RPL’s accredited team specialises in designing, installing, and maintaining bespoke fume extraction solutions for various facilities.

What types of fume extraction systems do we offer?

Our installations of fume extraction systems typically include, capture hoods canopies grills, ductwork supports, fans and filtration protection if required to suit your application. Exhausts to atmosphere are required to be colourless and odourless, in order to achieve this and if the need arises, we will provide filtration housings within the system. For example, a recently installed robot welding fume extraction system required two stage filtration complete with filter monitoring equipment prior to discharging through high level discharge stacks to atmosphere above the roof of a building. How do fume extraction systems work?

Fume extraction systems work by using an internal fan to create suction, which draws air into a filtration system. The air passes through one or more filters, which trap harmful particles. The purified air is then vented outside.

The filters are a crucial part of the extractor, as high-quality filters capture more particles, ensuring cleaner air. They also last longer, reducing the frequency of replacement and lowering maintenance costs.

Why does my business need a fume extraction system installing?

Installing a fume extraction system is essential to safeguard both workplace health and safety. Toxic fumes, such as exhaust emissions and solvents, can cause serious health issues, including respiratory disorders, neurological damage, and even cancer. Businesses are legally required to comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) 2002 Regulations, which mandate the control of exposure to harmful fumes.

By installing a fume extraction system, you not only protect your employees from hazardous substances but also enhance working conditions and ensure legal compliance.

Our step by step process, building your system, from start to finish.

Learn about our process and understand the key milestones to expect when working with us on your project.

Step 1
Enquiry & assessment

From your initial enquiry information, a site survey will be arranged to assess the site and the environmental and production problems you are experiencing first hand.

Step 2
Our survey

From our survey your requirements will be discussed, assessed and our conceptual design solution will be developed based around your specific needs.

Step 3
Exploring options

This could be anything from an innovative turn key installation for a dust extraction system, down flow containment booth or some other LEV system best suited to your application, to a simple bespoke sheet metal fabrication.

Step 4
Presenting to you

You will then be presented with our observations comments and a quote, technical specification and price for any equipment and or services which you require.

Step 5
Begin the project

Our contracts engineer will take up the reigns and project manage the contract through to completion. AutoCAD generated detail drawings, risk assessment and method statements will be provided where necessary.

Step 6
Hand over

Prior to hand over, we will conduct all tests ensuring everything is how it should be. This project will then be commissioned for hand over.
